Equal rights and Empowerment of women worldwide, an absolute priority to eradicate poverty!
March 25, 2024
There we were!
The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) constitutes one of the UN’s largest annual gatherings in New York City! It brings together governments, civil society, organizations, experts and activists : women and men from around the world converge to advance the cause of women and issues related to gender equality worldwide. To achieve this, they exchange points of view, learn from other people’s experiences, brainstorm, mobilize, demonstrate, protest..
As an accredited NGO with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), “Le Projet Imagine” is at the forefront thanks to its two permanent representatives in New York, Florence Houdayer and Elena Cusmir.
And it was Florence who covered this 68th edition, held from March 11th to 22nd. Her feedback is enlighting!
A known but alarming observation!
I have no doubt that if we had gender parity at
the decision-making levels around the world,at all levels,
we would not have the number of wars we have today.”
Antonio Guterres – UN Secretary-General’s
Without mentionning – and it must be mentionned – all those victims of sexual violence in the context of conflicts or political oppressions.
The notion of emergency was omnipresent : we have to face the reality that the SDG 1 on poverty eradication, SDG4 on education and of course, SDG5 on gender equality will not be reached by 2030 if governments, financial systems and civil societies don’t work urgently together on empowerment of women all over the world.
Certainly, this acceleration requires significant investments, particularly in access to education, family planning, social benefits, fair and equal wages… But such investments yield enormous dividends: by exemple, reducing gender disparities in employment could boost Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita by 20% in all regions of the world.
In this decisive year, where more than half of the world’s population is expected to vote, the power to demand increased resources for gender equality will lie in the hands of those who go to the polls!
compromise, laugh and sometimes even sing
but most importantly move forward together…
All these beautiful people
in traditional or non-traditional dress,
transport you with their determination.“
Florence Houdayer
In addition to the différent events organized by foundations and other associations, all as interesting as each other, the CSW offers to civil society regular assemblies whose mission is to keep us informed of progress, negotiations, conclusions of the work of the governments of the Member States which take place in parallel behind closed doors. It is in these closed, high-intensity assemblies that many socio-political and diplomatic decisions are made! Our correspondent therefore greatly appreciated these regular points, conducive to many meetings and fascinating exchanges…
The work of the next edition (CSW69) will be based on the conclusions and reports drawn up this year. Ensuring that women’s rights, their integration and their integrity remain a priority on the 2030 agenda, requires the vigilance of all of us. And this, while respecting the diversity of the societies in pour world .
It’s about Humanity and peace!
There are plenty of ways to get involved!
